用力過猛 [yòng lì guò měng]

用力過猛 [yòng lì guò měng] v. To use too much strength. A Chinese equivalent of the idiom “cross the line” in English. This Internet slang term describes well-intented yet inappropriate efforts that turn out to be counterproductive or socially unacceptable.

Example: Parents often “use too much strength” when showing their love for the children. For example, they make too many decisions for the children, which ends up stifle the children’s creativity and lower their confidence. People “using too much strength” in courtship sometimes scare away their love interests.
